Fanime 2013 Haul

Sweet dreams to ME

I now have a huge Ore Imō wallscroll hanging over my bed.

Hey guys! I’m back from school, and raring to post coverage on my experiences at Fanime 2013. Fortunately (or rather, unfortunately?), Fanime is the time of year where I stop giving a shit about college in favor of catering to the weeb inside of me, so I’ll start posting more often on my own damn blog again and talk about shows I’ve finished and started. At least before Wahfuu gets tired of giving my blog respiratory aid. Ahem.

Anyways, I’ll begin the Fanime coverage by talking about the awesome swag that I acquired during my trip at Fanime. I made a decent amount of money this year, and therefore I bought a lot more merchandize from the Dealer’s Hall compared to last year. Of course, it was limited to stuff I couldn’t find anywhere else otherwise, as Region 2 DVDs and the like tend to be pretty cheap when ordered off of sites like Right Stuf, so I limited myself to buying mostly imports and merchandise that are hard to come by normally.

Beware: Photos were taken from my crappy 3DS camera.

Characters of 2012 (Happy New Years!)

Needs some Kanon, Air, and Clannad

Now that 2013 has begun, it’s time for me to talk about my favorite aspect of anime: the characters, specifically ones from 2012.

I can’t stress this enough. The quality of storytelling in an anime and its originality are crucial aspects in making an anime memorable, but I always believed that whether or not a series had good characterization and likable characters is what makes or breaks an anime, in terms of deciding it it’s watchable to you. At the very least, that’s how an anime really leaves an impression on me. No matter how well-built the story is or how original it is, if it has boring characters, it won’t leave much of a lasting effect on me. Or, you know, it can have characters that I absolutely loathe and it’ll also leave an effect on me, albeit a bad one. It works conversely!

I suppose a good example would be just from looking at a dozen of classic anime out there, the ones that aren’t too old but are considered retro in the present times. Those gems from the 80’s to 90’s probably don’t have stories that we’d consider to be unique concepts today, but the characterization and character dynamics were so good that they were able to hold the show/story up enough for people to remember them decades later. And obviously, characters are crucial in deciding whether a slice-of-life anime with no overarching plot is enjoyable.

This is a list of my personal favorite characters from 2012.

Let’s Watch Little Busters! 01

We are the Little Busters!!

Mikoto Finally, the anime I’ve been waiting for, well, forever! I’ve been a bit sketchy about it not being done by KyoAni, who are pretty much the only company that has ever done VN adaptations right. But I’ve decided to give J.C. Staff the benefit of an open mind, and so I’m going into this first episode with absolutely no bias.

.

.

Mr. Lex Well, you can keep your lack of bias because J.C. Staff gives me convulsions. I don’t even know how they tricked me into trusting them and getting excited for this adaptation. If they screw it up I’m going to lose it.

.

.

Wahfuu My own excitement will kill me here, I swear. And it’s not like I can even pretend to not have a bias towards the visual novel. Look at my damn name. Either way, I have put down the torch and pitchforks and encourage everyone to do the same for now. We’ll mass the swarm later.
